Restaurant design in Paris
“Vale, we want to open another restaurant in Paris, but this time focused on seafood…what should we call it?”
Mariaclaudia and Aurelio, lifelong friends, came to us with an exciting new project. They wanted us to create the complete concept of Restaurant Design for their Parisian seafood restaurant. We were thrilled to get involved.
The Name: Ammare
We suggested the name Ammare. It combines many meanings: Amare, Mare, Aurelio, and Mariaclaudia. It also evokes the Sicilian expression “al mare”, meaning “to the sea.” The idea for the name came to life on the island of Lampedusa in Sicily, on a warm August afternoon.
Design Inspiration: The Sea and Boat Interiors
The name inspired us to reflect the sea’s beauty and the atmosphere of a boat. Parisian spaces are often smaller than those in Italy. Therefore, we aimed to optimize every inch while creating a cozy atmosphere. We designed Ammare to feel like the inside of a boat.
Key Design Elements of Restaurant Design

Walls and Seating: We used wall banquettes and soft fabrics, creating a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Materials: Dark wood and brass were used throughout, giving a nautical, refined touch.

Flooring: We preserved the hexagonal cementine floor, adding character and warmth to the space.

Stone Wall: A reclaimed stone wall brings an earthy, authentic feel to the restaurant.

Brass Counter: At the back of the restaurant, we built a curved brass counter. It mimics the flow of a wave.

Back Wall: The large stoneware slab resembles the ripples on the sea’s surface caused by the undertow.
A Complete Design Project
For Ammare, we handled everything: logo design, corporate identity, menu, tables, bar counter, and even the glass-and-brass bottle rack. Every detail was custom-made to capture the essence of the restaurant.
